How to get adhesive to adhere to door and trunk seals

Can anyone suggest a solvent or method to get 3M weatherstrip adhesive to stick to my new URO door seals and OEM BMW trunk seal?  I used laquer thinner to clean the rubber prior to installation but the glue just doesn't stick to the rubber and in places is loose.  Glue sticks just fine to the paint. This also happened to the hood seals that go around the hood latch bars.  Any suggestion on a solvent that will clean the rubber adequately, or would light sanding with fine grit paper help or another type adhesive??

Thanks for suggestions.

Try carburetor  cleaner.  It's the mold release powder that is the problem--I'm surprised lacquer thinner didn't work; it has for me in the past.

Truth be told, though I've had to re-glue the hood side seals several times because the contact cement I use just doesn't stick to the rubber very well (and it's essentially the same stuff as 3M weatherstrip adhesive (AKA gorilla snot).

I have had luck with these from Minnesota Mining & Materials...

and yes, abrading the rubber helps a lot.

Use the correct adhesive.  Our gaskets are EPDM Rubber.  As Mike say, mold release must be removed, 3M Adhesive cleaner usually does it.  Follow instructions on the data page at link below.

EPDM Is very difficult to bond.  Super Weatherstrip is super in non EPDM applications.

Thanks all for your suggestions.  Since Mike responded first and I happened to have a can of spray carb and Choke cleaner I went with his suggestion.  Worked great!  I guess I just wasn't thorough enough with the cleaning the first time.  Here is the adhesive I've been using.  Seems they (3M or other) could come up with something a little easier to work with.  Thanks again for all your input.

FYI, You are not using the best adhesive for EPDM gaskets.

EPDM is very difficult to bond, that said the Würth product works well also (I'm currently working with a Würth distributor).  It takes a little more work to find the Würth products.

NAPA has it as 08011.  It's very good, if applied to a clean surface and following directions and as much mold release removed without abrading.
