You’re right, and I should have recalled that! This suggests the factory pre-drilling actually began before the long-to-short-nose differential changeover, which appears to have been closer to mid-January 1969.

 

The above, of course, assumes, that your 1600-2’s subframe is original to the car and was not swapped from an early 2002 eons ago. But I’d suppose that if your long-neck diff has a 4.11 ratio, and not a 3.64 ratio, the diff is likely original to your 1600-2. And...although your subframe is pre-drilled, I believe it does not (yet) have sway bars. So the only motivation to move a 2002 subframe to a 1600-2, where you are neither swapping diffs nor installing sway bars, would seem to be to replace a rusted-out subframe. Not common, but it does happen occasionally.
