Any issues with 1600-2?? (long)

I've been looking to purchase an 02 for the last

year, and have talked to a guy that has a 67 1600-2

with a fresh '69 2002 engine in it. here's some

additional info : H&R progressive springs, Biltstein

sport suspension, Dynomax exhaust, new

Sumitomo 195-60HR13 tires, new MSD electronic

ignition. new ignition switch, 320is recarro sport

seats. very solid west coast car recently

transported from New Mexico. Exterior is OK, with

some trim needing replacement and chrome in

fair condition.

After doing a little bit of reading, I was wondering if

having such an early car would be more costly to

maintain, more difficult to find parts, and be less

reliable than a slightly later 02 , cause i still want a

round taillight :) I know some areas of difference

were the Differential(long vs. short), the clutch, and

the brakes.

I'm not real savvy with mechanics, but I've learned

a lot on this board. I just want to stay out of trouble

if I can...

If it's really a '67 (post VIN and someone can tell you) it most likely had (or still has) a 6V electrical system. If it's been converted to 12V, make sure it was done correctly.

Also, unless it was added, 1600s didn't have rear sway bars, and it may still have a mechanically actuated clutch. If it has an 02 engine, chances are good it's been converted to hydraulic.

As you suspect, there are a lotta little detail differences between the '67s and later cars. Even the early 2002s have some oddities not found on the later cars. But if the conversion has been done correctly, go for it if the price is right and it isn't rusty.
