Relatively speaking, this wasn't that long ago...

fall of 1977 in Los Altos, CA.

 

After my 1800ti blew up its gearbox (..should read ediot teenage owner forgot to check the gearbox fluid...) I found this 'runner in Palo Alto, CA for 1500 lousy bucks! 38k miles very clean with some residual new car smell..

 

My '67 Cham' 1800ti cost me $850 measly bux in '76....I was 16 and it was my first beemer. It should have been my first and last. I do not have a pic of that...sigh...

What a cool racecar!  Interesting line in that last pic.  Your competitors totally don't have it figured out.

The black ‘72 Tii was the very first 2002 that I bought in 1991 when I was just 12 years old.  It was going to be a father son restoration project to be finished when I was 16 but it was rusted out so badly, we ended up parting it out.  The green ‘72 Tii I bought in 1995 and drove for a short time before selling it.  Since then I’ve owned literally dozens of 2002s both fully restored, restoration projects, parts cars and at least one race car!

This picture was taken in Aschaffenburg Germany in 1971 when the BMW was brand new and my son was 3 years old. I put 36,000 miles on the car before returning stateside in October, 1972.  The other picture is of me after returning from New Orleans to pick her up.  I sold the car to a couple from Louisiana in 1987.

Got these pics from you when selling the 73tii (to me) in 2006.

Love all the pics!  Great initiative...  ?

 

I've got a few pics of my old man's 02's owned in period.
The first is of his '74 Inka BMW 2002 which he bought less than a year old.
The second pic is of the '73 Chamonix BMW 2000tii Touring which replaced it not long after (pardon my fathers dresscode - it was the seventies nonetheless...  ? )

And while the third pic doesn't include any 02's, I figured you guys might like it anyway.  It's the small-town BMW & Honda dealership which my father co-owned with his best mate.  The pic is from 1978.  My father actually sold his Chamonix 2000tii Touring to fund it, just like his mate sold his Agave 2002 to fund his half.  I still recall running around in the workshop and salesroom as a small kid - good times...

 

The next pics are of my NullZwei - a '73 Verona BMW 2002.
I bought it in '92 as my very first car!  It came with fully documented history and three owners before me - all of whom I know.  I've been handed old paper pics from them, which I think is pretty cool...
So the fourth, fifth and sixth picture is of my NullZwei during the first owner's (Leif Nielsen) time with it between '73 and '78.
The seventh and eight picture are from between '78 and '81 where it was with its second owner (Arne Andreasen).

Hmm- I see a Civic next to it and the boxy Volvo behind it.   Forty years ago I was riding a BMX bike in middle school. Now I feel old.

Took some B&W photos yesterday... but on a Polaroid SX-70 with serial number from the same month my car was made in 1971... Does that count ;)
