What is the difference between an e3, e10 and e30?

There is a very good article in the July '18 issue of the Roundel by Alex McCulloch titled "Sorting Those Annoying E Codes"  I don't see a link on line for it.  He skips the E10 designation and just calls our cars "02 series"

wasn't "114" a project number applied to the 1600 during development, not really meant for use beyond that?

So why are they still using 114 on 2002tii seats manufactured in 1972....

Best regards,

My experience of trying to rationalize details like this by large European manufacturers often leads to more questions than answers ;)

New book you say Mike? Any details on that?

It’s a nice book but the postage from the CCA is more than the books cost Simeon.

I would already have it but I’ve been bashed a bit with the postage stick lately and am over it.

well for a couple of weeks maybe????

My theory with this E10 nonsense is the engine is an M10. Then there's the M30 engine and E30 cars so therefore M10=E10. Then the myth became as pervasive and annoying to those who know it's Type114.

Except wouldn’t that make the E30 an E20 since it has the M20 engine not the M30 engine? Lol

So, FWIW, BMW began to put E Code stickers on Euro models for the last of the "model 71s" and the early "model 73" cars.

Tourings had E6 Code stickers, and 2002s had E114 stickers. By early/mid '74 these stickers omitted the E code and were designated the model (ie BMW 2002/Cabrio IA).
