Good for you, Joe B.  If you are going to start with ‘74, here is what I show for location (this car has been off the road since the 80s, so I am confident these are original stickers):

All very authentic, including the double tire pressure stickers!

Paul,

I believe it was only applied to cars delivered within the European Community. Function? Someone here will know! I’d guess it might certify that the car meets some European Community standard.

Best regards,

Steve

Which makes me wonder again what all the differences were in Canadian imports and US imports.

All I know for sure is that the sticker is original and my response from BMW Group Archiv says "delivered on November 22nd, 1972 to Canada".

I can’t answer either question, Paul! How do we explain that Canada appeared to get the U.S.-spec versions of most sub-models, e.g., the 276xxxx tii’s, but somehow also imported some ti’s, which were certainly not U.S.-spec.

As one of this forum’s outstanding Canadian contributors, I’m counting on you to get to the bottom of these questions.... ?

Best regards,

Steve

Relating to the E stickers:

The "E" means that the glass has been approved for road use in Europe on European member licensed automobiles by the Economic Committee of Europe (ECE). The number next to the "E" indicates the country which approved the item.

The numbers are as follows:
1 - Germany;
2 - France;
3 - Italy;
4 - Netherlands;
5 - Sweden;
6 - Belgium;
7 - Hungary;
8 - Czech Republic;
9 - Spain;
10 - Yugoslavia;
11 - United Kingdom;
12 - Austria;
13 - Luxembourg;
14 - Switzerland;
15 - (vacant);
16 - Norway;
17 - Finland;
18 - Denmark;
19- Romania;
20 - Poland;
21 - Portugal;
22 - Russian Federation;

Yes, I'm mine's a '75er, though clearly modified and ah, doesn't really conform to the advice on the orange sticker; but I replace it anyway! [emoji3]

I’ve been reading through this posting, but am not around my 02 right now to post some of my own pics... I have an original ‘75 that has the orange sticker on it? Is that not an original sticker to the 1975 model year?

Curious.

Here's a pic of my RHD UK delivery '02...……...E6 is Touring, so are you saying that E1 & E2 relates to Germany & France?

All the E Code stickers I have seen always have E1 & E2, but the other numbers (10R - etc) change depending on the model (Touring, 2002 Sedan/Cabrio, 1502 Sedan etc)

Perhaps this site can shed light:  http://www.elsie.com.ua/eng/mark.html

1 and 2 are in fact Germany and France respectively.

The numbers below the country: E1, for example; which is designated for Germany, refers to the specific Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (Federal German Motor Authority) number assigned for this particular approval ( a windshield in the case of this Euro 2002).  Or in E2: which is France, I suspect the same French approval documents can be found with the French auto regulator (who I do not know which one in the 1970s that would be).

My car has one of those (though admittedly I can’t remember what the e codes are on it). My car was delivered new to Prahan, Victoria (in Australia - according to BMW) though it could easily have been diverted from stock due to be shipped to the UK

Jim,

Your car’s original stickers are in fabulous condition. Did/does your ‘69 have the U.S.-mandated VIN sticker on the left door jamb? An example, from a very early 1970 model (manufactured September 1969), is shown below. I believe Mike’s ‘69 did not have one, but I’m curious when these stickers were first used. Was it with the introduction of 1970 model cars, or could it have occurred mid-1969?

Best regards,

Steve
