I find that the pulley can be soooo tight that even a large gear puller can be maxed before the pulley pops.

Mine has been off a few times so it was realitivly uneventful

when i reinstall I always add a Liberal amount of synthetic grease to the pulley wheel

fwiw, I find that removing stuck stuff with a puller can be much more effective if you tap=Tap=TAP on the part with a small hammer,

I learnt that trick pulling flywheels off rotary engines. They have a single taper held on by a very large nut. It's more of a whack whack than a tap tap. I also learnt not to get your finger between the mallet & flywheel when doing the whacking. [emoji44]

I am not implying that you don't know that trick, Paul... just putting it out there for future readers.

My old buddy Willie taught me that trick.

That and careful use of heat. I carefully used a propane torch (with a fire extinguisher handy). Fuel lines already disconnected and tucked away.

I agree, Simeon: the “bar and the bolt” look original; the pulling hooks look a bit...sketchy... ?

So it’s original, but no longer “numbers-matching”.

I think it's certainly number's matching.  I had to actually open the bag that mine came in to photograph it (I have never used it / needed it).  The hooks on mine look just as "sketchy", or hand formed, but without the patina.

(the complete set minus the fuel pressure gauge.  They wanted $575 for the pressure gauge, and I thought better of it, being the early 90's that was a lot of money).IMG_5910.thumb.JPG.f96e79a71ad792de09c05e3ca1de90d4.JPG

This is an example of the packaging it came in (not the package for the puller, it has marker written over the label)

Maybe the bolt in the middle is ‘factory’

The center bolt should have a ball bearing inserted in the end (see previous post photo).

I didn't know that.  It beats the generic puller with steel point.  Also, you don't have to remove the rad.

Now I want one!  Anyone able to make a bunch?

Will this work?  It looks like the jaws will reverse.

I don't think I could make one for this price in CH.  I will risk the $24 (free shipping)

I guess pulling the radiator would be mandatory.

Yes, it should work as long as the feet will fit in the holes.  Be careful tp keep the puller centered.  It will tend to wander.

Yes, pulling the rad is mandatory.

Previously I used the “Free” autozone loaner and it worked without the radiator

for or me it was easier to fab my tool than take the rad and electric fan out
