Hey Everyone,

Reinstalling my gas tank after the paint job. Can't find a specific mention on the preferred sealing method for around the tank. RTV type sealant or would closed cell foam work better? Any input appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris

I believe it's still available at your favoured supplier.

That OEM gasket is one of the tank's worst enemies.  It is basically a sponge that absorbs water/salt and then works its evil on the edge of the tank.  I use a denser neoprene/epdm nonabsorbent tape you can get at most hardware stores.

I used rope caulk.

This is a very useful product to fill all kinds of gaps.  I use this around heater boxes, under the gas tank, to fill random holes left from the PO, ....

3M  makes a good version that can be had almost anywhere.

I like this stuff a lot and used it to seal my pedal box when I put it back in.  I will probably put it under my tank's flange, after I repair the rust in that typical spot to the right of the tank, where they added that silly boxed section (late cars).

It is called Butyl Putty Tape (window flange tape).  ((just another option))

(Amazon's price sucks.  $10 at the local hardware store in the camper section).
