1967 gauge cluster with clock, can a tach be swapped?

Your cluster has silver-dollar dial faces, and your 1600-2 is 12-volt, so any tach through April 1971 should work.

One that looks likes this.....the one on the right. Although I think the white bit between 6500 & 8000rpm should be red (maybe?)

His is a 1968 model, manufactured in September 1967.

 

And a 6-volt tach, especially since it would pre-date the introduction of the 2002, is probably uber rare, if it, in fact, exists....

 

My notes show VIN 1533868 (manufactured August 18, 1967) as the first 12-volt 1600-2. Thus, all 1600ti’s were 12-volt cars. So was there a “tachometer option” for 1600-2’s during the 1966 and 1967 model years?

 

Has anyone here put a tachometer in a 6-volt 1600-2?

Here are some pics of a '66 version with clock and a '67 with tach (and the wrong speedo with broken pointer). 

The last pic shows the wiring harness you'll need to hook the tach up to the instrument cluster.  This is on a '69 cluster but the harness is the same.  The lower middle connector on the tach is where you connect the black signal wire from the condenser.

Based on the '67 cluster, 02Les is probably right as the date on that tach is '67.

So, Hal, does that 1967-dated tach date to the 6-volt era (up to August 18th, 1967) or the 12-volt era (August 18th, 1967, and later). I’m now curious whether there are 6-volt tachs out there.

 

Both the 1966 and 1967 clusters may have been diced and sliced. The cluster bezels for the 1966, 1967, and the first month-or-so of the 1968 model year were silver from the factory, not black as here. Stated differently, from March 1966 until October-ish 1967, the bezels were silver, as below, from a July 1967 brochure. Or have both been painted flat black post-factory?

 

And is the silver-dollar speedometer dated October 1969 (“10 69”)?

I was doing some research on 67's on the UK forum. Apparently there was a 6v Tach option (cost was $125 during the period.) Looks like TJones owns a NOS one. More info after the link.
