That looks like a BMW 1800 TI, or 2000 TI tachometer which fits in the normal clock hole. Could you give us a picture of the 1600 GT dashboard that it fits with please. Diameter of the tachometer would also help . Thanks, Peter

I don’t own a gt to photograph

I searched Google images for "vintage German tachometer" but could not find anything that resembles this tachometer.

I've attached some images from (2) Glas brochures (in my collection) for the 1300 GT and 1700 GT.  All tachometers seem to be larger and different in design.

As mentioned above, the diameter and any markings on the rear of the housing would be helpful.

Yep, definitely a NK unit. There should be a date stamp and "6V' or "12V" on the back of the housing – that'd help us determine which model it belongs to.

Excellent details!

Housing is embossed with 9 66 and ink mark of 10 66.  I would have thought these dates would have been a 6V unit - although air cooled VW's changed from 6 to 12 volts in September 1966.

Instructions indicate 70mm for use with BMW 1500, 1600, 1800 and 2000.

BMW manufactured a 4 door (NK) BMW 1600 between 1964 & 1966 in addition to a BMW 1500, 1800 & 2000 variants. Google is your friend.

It's the reason the two door car became the 1600-2 & later 1602.
