Logo Belts

Hi Ryan,

These were on the earlier 1600 models that didn’t have three point belts (or headrests). The ones I have are so badly rusted you can’t even make out the BMW logo.

I’m just hoping I can find a decent set at this point that I can work with...

Thanks for checking my post out!

Could these have been a European option that we never saw i  the US. There are 2 and 3 point seat belts listed in the ‘67 BMW accessories book I have.

Were these U.S. or Euro-spec cars, Daniel?

Just throwing out an idea, Todd:

Although I’m a big fan of bluedevils’ seat belts, these ‘60’s belts — heavy steel and chrome plating — appear to have more in common with the seat belts found in ‘60’s American cars than those utilized in ‘70’s BMW’s. You might want to consider having them re-done by one of the companies that specializes in American seat belts of the ‘60’s.

I used a company by the name of Ssnake-Oyl — I couldn’t make this up — to rebuild seat belts for my ‘61 Ford F-350.

https://www.ssnake-oyl.com/

The 1961 seat belts appropriate to a pickup truck were even more rudimentary than your ca. 1968 belts, but this whole “fake-vinyl-on-the-buckle-cover” look was pretty widespread in the ‘60’s.

The front page of their website illustrates a down-and-dirty seat belt restored.

Ssnake-Oyl is only one of multiple companies specializing in seat belt restoration. Many will insist you replace the webbing. Although it represents a loss of original fabric, I’m happy to have new webbing.

Best regards,

Steve

Thank you Steve! I will definitely check it out. I’m not sure anyone can restore the set I have (the ones pictured were from an eBay listing I missed a couple weeks back, mine are way worse than that!). Worth checking out though.

I’ll let you know if it works out.

Interesting! So the aftermarket airplane-style chrome lever-buckle lap belts my dad installed in the Orange Car circa 1971 weren't actually too far off of the factory lap belts in appearance. He put them in shortly after getting the car, determining the 3-point non-retracting Klippans to be, in the words of a contemporary review, "user-hostile."

I replaced the lap belts with factory retractable units shortly after I got the car in 2002.
