Not my car, not related...

VIN 2716948 was manufactured within the date range of January to July 1973.

It’s exceedingly attractive in Riviera with Saddle interior, an extremely rare combination if both are original. I’d ordinarily start looking for clues that, for instance, the interior had been swapped in. Black or black-and-gray is the norm. But these late-1973-only seats — “eared” headrests, 12 pleats, and thicker headrest suppports — were only used from sometime in early 1973 until the end of round taillight production in July 1973. So they are rare, yet perfectly fit with the car’s 1973 manufacturing date. Request a report from BMW Group Archives (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com) to confirm the manufacturing date and factory exterior color.

The firewall cut-out and 1973 manufacturing date are generally paired with an E12 head and aluminum intake runners. Here the intake runners are plastic and the plenum (accumulator) appears to have a January 1972 casting date; I could be wrong. Not knowing the full history of aluminum intakes on Euro-spec cars, I’d hold my initial concerns in abeyance until I knew more. Of course, I would check the engine number, block casting date. head casting date, etc.

With bona fide Alpina (CMR) steelies, it’s a great example. I would, nonetheless, scan those body panels at an acute angle: some of the reflections on the sides of the car’s appear slightly blurry. An in-person viewing would reveal what the photographs cannot tell, or sometimes mis-represent.

All in all, so sleek, so Euro, such a gorgeous color combo...

Regards,

Steve

His 35k orig miles is a bit of a stretch. Ex Oldenzaal Classic car and they said 135k km (84k miles). Prior to that it was in Italy complete with roll cage & Black interior, so assume it has been used.
