Where to find 2002 car auctions?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm trying to find car auctions where you can buy old 2002. I actualy want to buy a good car with not a lot of rust for cheap and restore it. My friend recomended several car auctions to buy old BMWs https://abetter.bid/en/car-finder/type-automobiles/make-bmw https://sca.auction/en/search/type-cars/year-1972-1983/make-bmw

Actualy I found only several 2002 there and not in good shape. Let me know if there are other car auctions where you can buy 2002.

By the way that's the car that I have chosen:

This one is the only one that is in good condition that I found. It has a bit of rust but VIN report looks clean: https://www.epicvin.com/en/check-vin-number-and-get-the-vinDb-report/reportView/4e83b426da693935c36203a8204d58ab

So what other 2002 car auctions guys can you recomend?

If I were in your shoes, I would not rely heavily on “VIN reports” for 40-year-old cars. Services such as Carfax cannot report on cars with 7-digit VIN’s, as ‘02’s have. BMW Group Archives can tell you the car’s manufacturing date and factory exterior color if you email the VIN to them (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com), but a lot happened between the manufacturing date and today!

And odometers in those days had only 5 digits, so they started over after every 100,000 miles. The percentage of ‘70’s cars with under 100,000 actual miles is very, very small, while 100% of all ‘02’s show under 100,000 on their odometers! ?

Further, both the speedometer/odometer and speedometer cables were problematic from day one. Start looking at ‘02’s listed for sale and you’ll be shocked how many have broken speedometers today. And most ‘02’s have seen this issue at some point. So dismiss that 5-digit odometer reading unless you have lots of records — I bought my ‘76 new and it’s receipts fill four volumes.

State registrations and titles that show mileage are also un-dependable, and not audited or checked. My 1961 F-350 pickup, owned since new by a family business on my wife’s side, has records from its early years showing it had reached 70K by 1978. The speedometer, replaced twice — so obviously having no relationship to actual miles — shows 62K, and the Maine registration shows 49K miles. It’s real mileage, despite known ownership, is unknown.

You must rely on the car itself. If you haven’t read the Mike McCarthy book yet, you should. Twice. And it’s only a start.

Good luck and regards,

Steve

Ahh I did wonder. Pretty good really, at least it didn’t say “I am very interested in the product and / or service that your hobby is based around, I have found this auction site that is the best for product and / or service. Also, can I sell you Viagra?”

Don't underestimate the value of a wanted ad in a club magazine/forum.... Many owners are not super-motivated to sell , but if they know an enthusiast is looking for a car then they'll make the effort.

This is link spamming to drive search engine rank for those sites linked. It's not some guy hoping to find a car.

Where are you James so we can help you find an auction? Have you read the articles with the buyers guide? I can also recommend the McCartney book for insight. What year were you thinking?

Well it beats having you fill in one of those "click on the picture without a bus in it" anti bot things :-)
