early/Alpina gauge pod

...did they just leave the clock but block the speedo?...

I’m guessing yes, Michael. But on a street car, that sounds really annoying: I’d probably swap the clock for an Alpina tach...

Best regards,

Steve, I’ve already got the Alpina tach in the pod, and since it cost more than my first car I’ve got to use it ?

Question is where to mount it. Seems weird to me that racers like in the pic would mount the tach blocking the speedo, and add a gauge pod, and leave the clock as is.
I could mount the tach to the right on the steering column so that it blocks the clock, but then it will be a little tilted.
Or switch the clock and speedo within the instrument instrument cluster, but that’s a hassle.

Another period photo of an Alpina-prepped interior, this one from Gert Hack’s 1971 book...

The ribs were added shortly after my Feb '69 car was built (no ribs) but I've seen April '69 production cars with ribs.

BTW, Nick, thanks for ID-ing that gauge pod--I never did see a maker's name on it.  I made a new base for mine that covers the fasten seat belts sign atop the dash, and velcroed the pod to the base.

Mike, do you have a picture of your gauge pod installed in the car that you could share? Thanks!

I wound up making six more of the four-hole pods and would be happy to make more if there is enough interest to generate another run.

I too would be interested in seeing Mike's pod installation.
