1674882 for sale / comments?

It’s described as Colorado orange, but it’s painted Inka orange, a color that I don’t believe existed yet in 1970. The seats and door cards are neither original nor duplicates of the originals, but I doubt the seller was aiming for originality. The dashboard is a one-piece unit, from a square taillight car. Side and rear marker lights and reflectors have been stripped from the car, “Europeanizing” it. The front bumper overriders are of the early Euro style. Outside rear view mirror was probably taken from a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500.... ?

Not only is the windshield washer reservoir missing, but so is the bracket for it. It’s pretty unusual to excise a reservoir bracket. That, plus the heavy Inka Paint, tell me to look carefully underneath, for whatever the paint may be hiding, e.g., evidence of rust or collision.

VIN 1674882 was probably manufactured in or around May 1970. Request a BMW Group Archives report ASAP (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com), if for no other reason than to confirm the factory exterior color.

Regards,

Steve

Thought I'd seen this. It's one of "Rare Rides" (MI) restos.

The colour is Fire Orange.

Doesn't need a washer bottle as there's no nozzles?

One has to wonder how well "Rare Rides" did with their resto when they were auctioning the car a little more than a month after you sold it. They must have a "conveyor belt" type resto process.

Just because $20K was spent on the restoration does not mean it’s worth $20K. At auction it might bring $10-15K. Having said that, I’m spending more than $20K on my 1970 BMW2002.

Huh?

My comment you quoted had nothing to do with costs or pricing: it was about a “complete restoration” completed in one month, a fraction of the time most of us spend, or consider even feasible.... ?

Sorry if I was unclear!

Regards,

Steve
