So I looked today in the Garage at all of the connections————-Alt. Bat Cable,

And [emoji50] wow! No Alt belt on the Alt and nowhere in site!

Question? I drove 10 miles in the heat

home...... did I screw up things?

Can I drive it to my buddy’s garage 8 mi with no belt?

If you already drove for 10 miles without it overheating, after letting it cool down and charging the battery for a few hours you should be ok for another 8 miles but it's not that hard to get a new belt and install it.

Yeah, car runs off the battery, no?  Alternator charges the battery.  It is pretty easy to install a belt...

What did the temperature gauge do? Interested as to how much natural circulation there would be in the engine without a water pump.

has used lots of different things as a temporary belt-

5 wraps of nylon string works great.

I once went 25 miles with a Chevy 305 in 90F weather with a bunch of block sealer in it before it overheated and died and it only died because it fried the electronic ignition.

Crap.  I didn't even thing about it having the water pump and the alternator on the same belt.  Maybe I should stop offering advice before the first cup of coffee.

Hi there! What Fan belt is the one you suggest. The are all so imported and I want a good one. Last time I bought off the net? Super confused [emoji2371]. Thanks man

Have you checked to see that the pulleys are aligned in a flat plane, allowing the belt to run without distortion?

 

The alternator is mounted using rubber isolating bushings, to insulate it from engine vibration and the bushings get soft and distorted with age.  That moves the pulley out of alignment and the belt wears out faster.

 

A vendor like Blunttech will have the new rubber bushings, (if you need them) as well as the belt.  If you call them I'll bet they could even pull up the part numbers for the required pieces to freshen up the alternator mounts. 

 

Some people use polyurethane bushings instead of rubber, so they last longer.
