In Portugal most of the cars are ckd mounted in here, but there are germany made ones. My 2002 is one of the last ckd but i have a 1600 parts car ckd too.

Do you happen to have the VIN runs for those CKD Portugal cars?  I looked in my factory parts book, and it lists the 1802s assembled in Israel, but not the Portuguese or Uruguayan cars.

Another one with information about the plant were they were assembled

I have pictures of a station prototipe made in that plant (in one classic portuguese car magazine)

Would CKD cars, delivered to Portugal (or its colonies; e.g. Angola) have smooth trunk wheel arches/shock towers?

Or would they have factory shutz applied?

So, if 'body-schutz' was an option - what was it's purpose ... as an option?

I didn’t hear that body schutz was an option. What I’m seeing are:

1. Two cars, (a.) a freshly re-painted Inka car in a post by 2k2tii, and (b.) a re-painted Polaris car in the most recent post by vs_sat (two different re-painting campaigns in the latter) exhibit no body schutz.  I know the Polaris car is a CKD car out of Portugal. I suspect the Inka car may also be a CKD car.

2. Although 2k2tii is being somewhat mysterious, ? I’m guessing he has come across a difference between the Bavarian-built 2002’s and the Portuguese-assembled 2002’s.

3. I’m anxiously awaiting more discussion to verify or deny my suspicions, as well as more examples if I’m correctly reading the trajectory of this thread.

(Maybe schutz was less critical in warmer climates, maybe applying schutz correctly was a challenge in the Portuguese factory, maybe delivering cars Completely Knocked Down forced different decisions about schutz (e.g., schutz was applied pre-paint but, depending on just how “knocked down” the cars were, maybe CKD parts were painted before assembly, not after!), maybe.... )

Regards,

Steve

In Portugal we had a great Classic car magazine that in 2007 made an article that talk about the Portuguese ckd cars

In the second page (in the blue box) the subject is the /VN leters that all VIN had.

I have in here another one that as an old picture of the station 2002 prototipe made in Portugal.

If i find it i send a picture

Thank you for posting all this information on Portuguese CKD cars in general and yours in particular!

Beyond an awareness that Portuguese CKD cars existed, most of us — certainly I — knew nothing of these operations until now!

Regards,

Steve
