A pair of wide mount head rests

Hi all, really keen to get hold of a pair of head rests for my 1972 1602, any help would be much appreciated.

Two changes occured to ‘02 headrests during the 1973 model year: one effecting solely appearance, but the other effecting fitment. But, yes, all headrests from 1969 thorough the end of the 1974 model year did use the widespread supports.

 

First, the first photo below illustrates the earlier “tubular” style headrest. The second example illustrates a later “eared” style.

 

Second, at nearly the same time, the diameter of the headrest supports increases from 10 mm to 12 mm. Thus, from mid-1973 through the end of the 1974 model year, the headrests are not easily interchangeable to an earlier car.

I just measured my seats and the head rest receiver hole is 10mm, I tested with a 10mm and 12mm drill bit.

That’s correct for a 1969 through mid-1973 model. But if you purchase a headrest with widespread supports from a mid-1973 through a 1974 model, you’re going to have to fit 12mm supports into your seats’ 10mm holes.... 

 

It might be possible to swap out the seats’ internal 10mm guides for 12mm guides, but I doubt that new replacement parts will be available.
