I count 7 02s for sale on CL this morning including this one:

https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/d/spanaway-1969-bmw-2002/6980358926.html

Too bad its not in Portland, I would be on the road by now. Korman eng, DCOE carbs, Recaro's.

May be worth someone closer checking out. Take pics please?

Gold mine or bottomless black hole?

Got one photo from the seller, it’s all he has on his phone he says, but it starts to tell the story of this PNW barn find... too bad it wasn’t pushed under that deck a little further.

Got a big 6 and some cool vw’s under there as well it seems.

With the price of old dirty parts these days, I can't believe it's not already sold & gone.

By the VIN it's most likely March or April 1969 production...the best bargain of the whole batch...

Hate to burst the "cheap barn find" bubble but I just heard back from the seller, this has turned into a live auction:

"Vehicle can be viewed on Saturday starting at noon. I plan on taking two rounds of bids. The high bid on the first round will be announced and everyone present will be allowed to bid in response, winner of the second round gets to take it home."

Bummer.

Kind of unscrupulous and typical price gouging since a selling price of $2002 was indicated.

Seller probably had no idea what they were looking at, just an old car. Probably figured out they had something valuable only when they were inundated with Emails.

The closest car to VIN 1665698, for which I have a confirmed BMW Group Archives manufacturing date, is VIN 1665747, manufactured April 25, 1969. Given the latter car is only 49 cars later, I’d guess the manufacturing date for VIN 1665698 is darned close to April 25, 1969!

@lowniss37, Although this looks like a very complete car, I’d really want to see a lot more before I pulled $10K out of my wallet — speaking figuratively, as I’ve never had anything close to $10K in my wallet.... ? Make no mistake: this is a project!

Regards,

Steve

Don't bother. Was a waste of time. Went to the "auction" yesterday and watched a guy pay $3400 for it. Was a rusty car that needed a LOT of work. $1500 sure, $3400, no way. Had some interesting pieces though. No paperwork on the "Korman" engine. Wasn't painted classic Korman blue. Had Billy's, possible Alpina steelies, some roached Webers, Stahl copy, and a few other goodies. But really, half a step away from parts car.

I wish the owner best of luck.

Wow, thanks for sharing that....I was ready to head up there yesterday morning to take a look when the seller texted me that he had an offer of $4,000 for the car...way beyond what seemed a fair price... the pictures looked like there would be a lot of rust and other issues so happy to hear my instincts were right!! :)

Lol . I was never going there to begin with. Just having fun. I have one and for me one is enough otherwise they start breaking down . They get jealous of one another and fight for attention :)

A friend of mine told me, while visiting my barn, that the more cars you have, the fewer of them have valid inspection stickers....might not be true for Jay Leno, but I have trouble keeping 2 on the road with stickers that are not daily drivers.
