Looks like the real deal: (a.) 121T head and (b.) block casting date of May 13, 1974 or, possibly, November 13, 1974, assuming the casting date is either “13E74” or “13L74”.

It wouldn’t have been too difficult, however, for the seller to show the engine number, so a buyer can see it’s a 4290001 through 4291672 block.... ?

Regards,

Steve

Pic #5 seems to show a 1987 date. What does that refer to?

Les,

I’ve never viewed the small round “clock” as a dating mechanism on these blocks. Note that the same numbers that appear on the 1974 turbo block, “32 987”, also appear on many other M10 blocks, blocks that have clearly-defined casting dates and factory engine numbers, such as:

1. In the first two photos, an April 11, 1972 block (“11D” within the oval frame and ‘72” outside the oval frame), from VIN 2761590, manufactured in May 1972.

2. In the third photo, I believe one of Barney’s recent restorations, an August 18, 1972 block (“18H” within oval frame and “72” outside the oval frame).spacer.png

Probably because I’ve not interpreted that component of the block casting, I seem to have very few photos that show it!

Best regards,

Steve
