Exciter wire for alternator

Dudeland

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know off the top of there head where the blue wire goes on the alternator?  I think it goes to the bulb in the dash but I am not sure.   I am not getting power to it, so I have to rev the car to get the power flowing.

Regards.

Are you rewiring or just looking for a loose wire?

It's a solid sky blue wire from the alternator plug through the firewall, under the dash and into the multiple in the back of the instrument cluster. Once attached it will illuminate the alternator light in the dash when the ignition is on.

Thanks that begins to make sense.  I am going to take the cluster out now to take a look at what is going on.  I suspect the answer is in the cluster itself.  I am getting no power to the wire.   I wonder if a LED bulb has something to do with it as it allows current to flow only one way, hence the "D" standing for diode in LED.

and the engine's not running!

(but you knew that.)

It should be low voltage with KOEO and high with KOER.

(Fordspeak for 'key on engine off', and 'key on engine running')

You probably already have done this, but make sure that your alternator and also the cluster are well grounded.  I had a loose ground connection on my alternator that caused all sorts of weird intermittent problems.  Good luck,

Yes I have the alternator properly grounded. I replaced it when I converted to a one wire model.

I have been doing a lot of waiting underneath the dash. I know something is wonky as a brisk tap on the glass got the dash bulb working on the fuel gauge cluster.
