Ended at 25,500 but reserve not met. Board member posted that he went to look at it but passed.

Paint was graded 7/10 and as hollowridge notes above the engine is non matching.

Seller shows the 72 engine number in the Hemmings listing. Anyone know where the original matching engine can be found?

Again, this looks like a nice car. But with 7/10 paint and a non-matching engine — this car’s primary selling point is being a complete, original, early ‘02 — $25.5K sounds like all the money to me.

Regards,

Steve

Motoexotica is going to struggle with this one. They got it in a Sotherby's auction (September) for a reported $27k and were trying to sell it quick for $36,500.

They might be rueing getting it now.

I guess they could put it on BAT; someone might pay silly money for it there.

Yes, BAT appears to have a good share of un-informed — er... I mean enthusiastic — buyers!

Best regards,

Yeah, I was the one that went to see it. Obviously didn’t get it cause it went for waaaay to much in my opinion. (26.5K after auction fees)

When they first posted it on eBay I contacted them to see what they were trying to get for it. The guy claimed that he used ebay as a marketing tool and that he had “never” lost money on a flip. He said that people in Europe paid top dollar for these and what made this one so special, was that it was an early model. I just wanted it cause it was Polaris lol.. but oh well

This Polaris has a black interior. Is it likely that it came with black rather than the usual Polaris/Blue combination?

By December 1968 — the date of my earliest ‘02-era paint and upholstery brochure — Navy Blue had become the default interior color for both Chamonix and Polaris cars with all-vinyl interiors. And that remained the case through the end of ‘02 production.

But I have precious little data for the period before December 1968 upon which to base a conclusion regarding interior colors. My own sense is that most (all?) Chamonix cars through late 1967 seem to have received Black factory interiors. Gary’s (West Palm 2002’s) very original September 1967-manufactured 1600-2 (1968 model year) is typical. But I haven’t seen enough early Polaris cars built before December 1968 — and still having something approaching an original interior — to even make a judgement.

So... I tend to buy into black interiors with Chamonix and Polaris prior to 1968, unless I see clear evidence that the seats are just wrong for an early car.

Best regards,

Steve
