Early Tii Fuel Tank Identifiction Help

Recommended Posts

Lots of great information here, Thanks All.  So, the fitment into the 12/71 Tii is correct. My only issue is,  why does it have a short filler neck?  It looks like a factory edge on the neck and no signs of it being cut.

Agree with Les,  it is not a Ti tank as they should just have a standard '02 tank.

I beadblasted the tank today and all of the seams look great, but around the filler neck it is brazed and sloppy, perhaps someone put a different neck on it?  I'm installing a long neck on it.    I think i'm good Thanks for all of the input.

Dan,

Wait...

I don’t believe the conclusion is that this is an early tii tank. The filler neck is short because this is a ca. 1969 tank, pre-tii. The holes — at least what I’m reading — were modifications to a 1969 tank to accommodate its use in a track car. Maybe I’ve mis-read or mis-interpreted the thread. Hopefully, someone can correct me.

Can it be turned into a suitable tank for an early tii? Probably. The pickup hole will probably need to be modded to accept a standard twist-in pickup. And the filler neck will likely need to be lengthened.

Best regards,

Steve

Steve,

OK,   I guess that I'll have to see what a twist in pickup tank looks like.   Looking at the pickup on this tank, it looks like a Tii pickup that was modified for all of the additional fittings.   I'll try to find some dimensions on the pickup hole. My thought was, just because the car is a '69 Ti, it doesn't mean the tank is?  The owner/engineer could have put a modified Tii tank in at a later date, correct?    Did you look at the pics on this attachment? The filler was on the back of the car.

Thanks for your thoughts,

dq

Dan,

The short filler neck is what screams early car to me.

Best,

Don't know if the plumbing arrgt in the car would help any, but here's some pics from the sale of the car back in 2014. A plumber's nightmare!
