It's a curious fact that 2002's look good in green. Not alot of cars can pull off green

You've got Agave, Jadegrun, Amazongrun, Mintgrun..... Florida

Don't forget Taiga, the bestest of green 02 colors!

I do like all of them however.

Leave it.  Put a lot of depth in the finish.  And I loved the suggestion of some gold (be subtle!) in the wheels.

And don’t forget Turkis, Turf, and Tundra metallic, at least one of which is another “bestest of green ‘02 colors”... ?

Best regards,

Steve

That would, of course, be Turkis! At least as long as you consider Turkis a 'green' and not a 'blue' color; I do, but have had arguments on the matter!

There's a gorgeous Tundra E9 that's regularly at the Vintage; while I again think it's a bit dark for 2002s it sure makes for one of the nicest looking Coupes I've ever seen, and incidentally I think it also has a Saddle interior!

I love Amazon.  My 74tii is Amazon and I have never gotten tired of it but I am not sure Amazon is a stock color for your year.  Could be wrong.

There was an amazon '74 that lived/worked in the same areas that I did when I drove my Dad's Agave '73 as teenager. I always felt that it was a mistep on BMWs part... Like a bad repaint... Just my opinion though. Send the VIN in to BMW if ya really want to know what it should be.

Amazon appears to replace Agave in the September 1973 global paint and upholstery brochure. This version of the brochure was issued simultaneously with the introduction of the square taillight ‘02. Agave was still shown in the December 1972 edition of the paint and upholstery brochure. I’m not certain if there were any brochure versions between December 1972 and September 1973. Of course, we’ve seen that phased-out colors sometimes disappeared gradually, perhaps as supplies were consumed.

I’d assume a general round taillight-square taillight switchover from Agave to Amazon, but the actual execution might have been more nuanced.

A quick email to BMW Group Archives, with the car’s VIN, will tell you how the factory painted the car (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com). It won’t guarantee, however, that the car retains that factory color... ?

Best regards,

Steve

I think Agave and Amazon were both available in 1974.

I’d say, Mike, that if there are factory Agave 1974 models — and let’s assume there are — they’re painted with the last quarts of Agave in inventory. Here are the December 1972 and September 1973 paint and upholstery brochures.

The first five photos are December 1972. The last five photos are September 1973.

Best regards,

Steve

Steve I have another chart that shows both agave and Amazon as 74 colors however it isn't a factory color chart so I would tend to believe that the factory brochures over the chart that I have.

Mike,

If it’s a chart that has circulated for years and also opines on the relative rarity of the colors, I’m well familiar with it and it’s a great first draft, although it was prepared without regard to most factory sources and with a heavy reliance on subjective judgements as to common and rare colors.

Best regards,

Steve
