I was anti hood pins for a while but Paul has designed a simple solution for the hood pin that uses the two existing hidden nuts for the hood locking bar and I'm going to go with it. I'm doing away with heat and hood latch, so there is more weight that can be removed.

And because both hood and trunk panels are lighter, we don't need the bulky, heavy steel hinges. So we can remake everything in aluminum as we are doing now. It all adds up.

And you are right,  Paul is at 1800lbs wet with an s14/g265 trans. That's easily 50 lbs heavier than the m10/g245 equivalent.

I need to chat with Paul about those hood pins and possibly the hood brackets as well.

Trunk lid is ready. It's so light while looking good. Both trunk and hood will require two separate molds. One for outer shell, one for inner frame. Then they need to be bonded together and finished off. It's a lot of work. Each of the two panel takes about a full day from start to finish.

Each trunk hinge is over 1lb in weight savings.

When you start selling these is there any chance of buying a trunk lid with a built in spoiler?

Basically no chance of that happening.

Your ask requires a redesign, and a fresh mold for the complete exterior shell half. I'd love to do it, but it wouldn't be cost effective for either you or me.

I didn’t know if the spoiler could be a separate mold and added as an extra step. Thanks for the insight

Some more progress over the week

Trunk is 200% done and ready for the car.

Got a bunch of hardware plated. I have no idea where it goes. Lots of multiples.

Wrapped up the rear suspension install. That includes fresh subframe with IE adjustment kits, hardware, freshened up trailing arms, powerflex bushings, AST rear coilover set up, etc. Everything is looking good.

Then wrapping up Matt Pekin's over-engineered control arms. These are the single nicest pieces of my car and I'm proud to be able to run them. I know what it took to make them and at the current price, I will buy 2 more sets to shelf for my later midlife crisis 2002 builds.

I'm getting a little rubbing in the front brakes. My guess is it's rotor to backing plate. It's pissing me off so I'm going to pull it all apart and look at it again. I hate doing things twice but I hate random noises even more.

All good progress.

uggggggggggg I need all this! My car is so neglected right now, stupid daily taking all my money

@danco_ Your staying with the 13s? What wheels are you going to run? sorry if I missed this

You'll get to it, I'm sure of it. It's so refreshing working on a car like a 2002. Doesn't feel like work or a chore. I will even go as far as saying it's a constructive hobby in my life.

I have those bitching Campagnolo Ragno wheels with fresh Pirelli CN36 rubber that I have stashed away... I may actually sell them though. Can't decide.

For my car, I'll run 13x8 wheels...either BBS E76, E30, or early Alpina 3 piece 13" wheels built up to 13x8. Tires will be 205/60/13.

We haven't made any FG roofs. All roofs are carbon fiber at this time. The first one from our new mold is on his second SOC car, the manila 2002. I have a photo of it here. It's a perfect roof. All body lines are present and perfected, because my roof is original and unmolested. I feel bad that I'm going for a carbon fiber roof, but right now I'm chasing weight savings.

We drove this manila car for the first time last week. It has the same drivetrain as before, just way lighter (lighter than even his florida green 1600 with the s14 engine), and it feels wayyyy faster and more nimble than before the surgery. The weight savings makes a huge difference even if motor is not reworked. That's what makes this kit so great; You can redo just the body and you get both function and form upgrades.
