I would devote so much time into lightening up the front half of that car.

Fill it with helium!

Not much, but I spent more time fine tuning the front brake system and overall fitment. Because I did most of that before I had a bunch of hardware plated, it gave me a chance to swap in newly plated hardware which I am stoked for.

I'm finally ready for alignment and bleeding the brakes.

Old set up when I first got the car:

Fresh gear anywhere I could (saving brake lines for engine swap phase)

Old hardware that was replaced today for fresh hardware:

No more dragging rotors on backing plate, and what the finished product looks like.

Notice that the first photo was a non-tii set up.

I managed to scramble through my stash and came up with all the required tii bits to make a complete set. What I was missing, I went out and bought. I'm happy with progress.

I was hoping to do the rear bearings and longer wheel studs in my garage, but looks like I'll go to a shop for that.

I'll drive this car this week. Another milestone. Then back for another tear down.

I need wide 3-piece BBS or similar wheels in 13" diameter. Who's holding?

I've heard rear wheel bearings never go bad...

Cheers,

Mine aren't bad, but in order to swap in longer wheel studs, I gotta futz with that whole set up. So new wheel bearings is gonna happen.

Son Of Cobra kit is coming very soon now ?

I really need to find/build 13x8 wheels

I think Forrest has a set of his custom 13” centers left.

nevermind, went back and looked and it’s the h&b style, and possibly limited to 6.5

Forrest may also have the alpina flower pedals from Rey...That's what I'd be most interested in from Limmerfelgen.

+1 His Limmerfelgen repros would look great.
Although I think my first choice to keep things light would be new magnesium BBS E30s.

This is high on my list.

But so are the three piece alpinas...I had a set in my garage 8 months ago, but I sold them thinking I'd go E30. Bad move.

Cheers,

123Bearing is selling sealed bearings now for the rears.  Next grease cycle that's my pick.  Eliminates the mess of regreasing and seals.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Wheels acquired.  Super uncommon BBS E68

Special thank you to @Pouya for the assist.

Current spec: 13x6 total. 5" barrels, 1" lip.

Future spec: 13x8 total. 5" barrels, 3" lip. May order 4" barrel and 4" lip for the rear wheels.

Tires will be 205/60R13. Maybe Vredenstein or CN36 if they are made in that size.

These have very deep hub pads that require longer studs. I got that covered.

How they clear the front Matt Pekin arms with a small roll center spacer -  very nice.

How they clear the rears with a disc brake set up. I threw them on my tii to test and they fit fine there too. But like suspected, they will only work with longer wheel studs.

Great purchase and one more issue resolved.

The car is at my friend Tony's shop in Covina for a few things. He's one of my most trusted classic BMW mechanics. Work completed in the last week:

Bleed brakes

Nut and Bolt the car

New rear wheel bearings

Longer rear wheel studs

Oil change

General adjustments in engine bay

Friday it's off to the alignment shop, and then she goes to the Son of Cobra lair for a fresh carbon body.

Picture from when it headed to Tony last week:

Carbon trunk peek:

Second sidebar:  On Sunday, Paul Lefevre and myself headed to a VARA event hosted by Hagerty at the local track Willow Springs. We put his car on track and it did incredibly well. He was consistently running fast lap times and the car was FAST. It gained attention no matter where it was. I managed to get a few action shots. This car is madness with the s14. I love it.

I may be selling my Campagnolo wheels with fresh Pirelli CN36 tires in 185/70r13.

I'm not dead set on it, but I've been playing this game where I sell parts off the car to purchase other parts and I'm doing pretty good. I want it to continue.

I'll be selling my front and rear seats as a package as well.

Light is right!
