Interior seat cover identification

Hard to tell from the pictures, but the vinyl could well be OEM BMW stuff, the mottled (not all the same color, darker tones swirled in with lighter) material used on 2002s up until sometime in late 1971/early 1972.  The waffle pattern center sections, however are definitely not OEM; they've been replaced.

And to add further confusion, those seat frames appear to have come from a squarelight, as they don't have the same reclining mechanism as was used on roundies.  So it appears someone took the upholstery from a pari of earlier seats, had the worn/split center upholstery sections replaced and then refitted the upholstery to later seats--probably from a '74 as the headrests have the widely spaced brackets (75s and 76s have brackets that are directly below the headrest itself).

What are they in now?

What esty said...

Even the smooth vinyl has too much texture for OEM smooth vinyl. Below: first, a set of original 1975-76 front seats, from the U.S. 1975-76 2002 brochure; second, my re-done spare seats for my ‘76 — restored largely with OEM smooth and perforated vinyl.

Regards,

Steve
