Optima Red Top Battery...how long did yours last?

I just had to post this to share with others.  My Optima Red Top Battery in Hugo is finally starting to give up...but it still starts the engine!  It's been on a Griot's Garage battery minder for 16 years!  I've never heard of a battery lasting that long....anyone else have a similar experience?

Not a red top, but the oem varta battery in my 74 lasted 12 years in a d/d got to be a record somewhere.

I had one in the 2002 for about 15 years before it quit. Guy at the battery place where I got a new one was impressed.

The Optima red top battery sure has gone up in price!  LOL!  $221 today w/o core.  $200 w/core exchange.

Mine was going strong for 11 years before I sold my 72. They make a 6V one to. I'll probably try that when I'm ready to buy one.

Although not an Optima, my most recent Interstate Mega-Tron battery lasted 11 years, albeit maintained on a Battery Tender.  But if you factor in that I replaced the OEM battery in 1980 with a JCPenney Lifetime Battery, it's more like 40 years.  I'm currently on my 9th battery replaced at no cost by Firestone which bought out JCPenney years ago and I'm grateful they continue to honor the lifetime free replacement warranty.

Put this Bosch Silver battery in my Touring 1995-6 when the car was in the UK. Finally replaced it in 2012, but still use it now to test electrical bits & bobs. The replacement battery lasted 6 years!
