1968 1600-2 on Bring-A-Trailer

Well, @Ray_ once posted "My first 1600 was 1562734." Here's 1562736! Before you read much more or click the link below, tell me what's unusual about the photo. Yes, rear side reflectors are unusual on a 1968 car, at least according to Mike and others. But here's something I have not seen before. The passenger door glass is not reflecting light. That's an interior mounted, roll-up window shade, like the old time window shades from back in the day. Maybe some of you all have seen them, but I have not.

 

I have no stake in this car whatsoever. I was just cruising BaT for good, historical cars with lots of pictures (this one has 275 pictures) and ran across this example. The meatballs would be good for an owner who's golf game is not so hot (Yeah, I know the ball warning chant is "Fore!"). The red rear reflectors are sort of a head scratcher, as looking inside the trunk, they appear as though they are factory mounted. But, I'm just not sure.

 

This is a "No Reserve" auction, so maybe someone will buy a bargain. Aside from the paint and a few other owner preference items, this car seems pretty original. Fore! Aloha, Robert

Be interesting to see it sells for on BAT. The Seller has been advertising it for nearly a year with no sale. Last I saw he was asking $13,500. I'm sure someone on BAT will beat that.

Les, I think "the die is cast." It's a No Reserve auction. My experience with BaT is that it is very difficult to get out of your contractural agreement to sell, so this car will sell to the highest bidder. I don't think the video will attract many additional bidders. However, the window shades and the meatballs, now there's the "cat's meow!" Aloha, Robert. PS. I think low teens is all the money. RPS

I've seen this one in person.  It's a cool little car.  Has a lot of character.  The owner has a coffee shop and hosts car meets.  He also has a porsche 356 and alfa both with a lot of character.  I think the reason it's not commanding as much money as he would hope is because it's got quite the mix of mismatched parts and its not the original color.  Now, if a Porsche was in this condition, it would still command quite a bit of money.  But I think this car might not be able to get top dollar based on character alone.  I think people will either see it as not original enough to leave it as is and in that case, they would have to change a few things (seats, paint, dash, carpet, etc) which cost money.  With that said, It could be exactly what someone is looking for and I hope it does sell for what he wants.

I agree, it’s an interesting 1600 I wouldn’t mind owning. Even though it might not bring “big $$$” due to some non-original parts, will probably wind up outside what I’d want to pay due to the BaT factor. One to keep an eye on.
