I did name my car, I call it "Survivor"

Its a solid but scruffy 76, VIN 2370706 built in Sept 75. Paint code 025 Granat rote metallic.

Limped into my garage in Feb 2019 after 25 years in storage some where.

Should be finally rejoining the ranks of roadworthy 2002s as soon as Plates/stickers arrive by mail.

Pretty excited?

I had a '67 Fiat 124 4-door sedan in college that a friend named "Ferd", she thought it had personality and needed a name. That's the only named car I've ever had, and the list is coming up on a couple dozen including a couple motorcycles...

no bimmer, for now

When Bill Ballon was working on the tii as my purchase was being finalized, he kept referring to it as "her."  I asked how he could tell - he replied, "Believe me - she's a b!tch!"  I named her the female diminuitive of the previous owner, thus Juanita.

Classic Ballon. He's been my favorite curmudgeon since 1989.

Why female and boy?

Not male and female or boy and girl?

My BMWs are more "boy racer" hers are "respectable". You've met Cindy, maybe I should have gone with lady, instead.

Lol....u love a Forester and a mini van? ?

Technically, it's my wife that loves her Forester, and thus she named it.  But yes, I absolutely love (and hate) our minivan. By any conceivable metric, it is the best way to move a family around on wheels, full stop. Do I regularly pile everyone into the M5 for an excuse for some fun? Definitely.  Do I even cram them all into the 2002 to head to the Vintage? Absolutely.  Would the minivan still be the better option even when I don't want it to be? Unequivocally yes. So I absolutely love it for being top-notch at its job.

Giorgio is the name of my sourdough starter I use for pizza..

This is really funny, because my wife named our sourdough starter Starla!!!

Strangely enough, I have not yet named either my 3D printer nor any of my various bikes, but I'm sure their true names will reveal themselves to me here before TOO long!

Leslie = male

Lesley = female

I realise since coming this side of the pond nobody knows that.

In this country that's not particularly true.

But remember the boy called Sue,

and there are plenty of women named Michael, too.

so, errr...   proceed at yer own risque?

Exactly. Another thing lost crossing the Atlantic. It's a myth like E10.?

In the United Kingdom, the name is spelled Leslie when given to boys, while for girls it is usually rendered as Lesley.

Originally a Scottish clan name.

I can hardly remember people's name let alone a car name! I'm glad I still remember the brand and model because I love it so much. But my love only expands upto the e36 model and maybe the e46 wagon but I can't love any newer BMW's or cars they just don't do anything for me. Any modern cars would have to be all electric although the new Bronco is pulling some strings.

My 73 2002 was named Stella when I bought..... her. I renamed it...… Franz. Gender fluid? Regardless, I liked the story of WWII Luftwaffe pilot, Franz Stigler. He was a young man who had thought of going into the priesthood before the war. During the war, he became a top pilot and Luftwaffe officer. On a day when he had already shot down two B17s, he came upon a B17 that just wouldn't go down, despite the horrendous damage it had suffered. He pulled along the right side of the bomber in his ME109 to look closer at this riddled, smoking wreck that was still aloft. Franz then moved over to the left hand side of the bomber and made direct eye contact with the pilot, Charlie Brown (!!), and lost all interest in finishing off this pathetic plane full of Americans, some dead or dying. So, against orders and at the risk of facing a firing squad if caught, Franz escorted the B17 to the northern coast with hopes that the crew would make it to Sweden which was much closer than England. The bomber instead pressed on for Its base in England. Years later, both Franz and Charlie wondered about their adversary in that struggle and what might have become of the other guy. Somehow, they found each other, exchanged letters, phone calls and eventually visits. They became closer than most brothers until they died of old age issues. There is a fascinating book called: “A Higher Call” that I read about this encounter and moving friendship between Franz and Charlie.

Anyhow, I have named my BMWs male names. I suppose that I could decide on a feminine name if the mood struck me. I'd certainly name a Miata a female name and ditto with the neo VW Beetle, but for me, it's a gray area at best!

P.S. Dieter was named for the Mike Meyers character featured on 'Sprockets'. (SNL) Konrad was named for Konrad Adenauer the postwar German leader. My 2000 328ci was named Werner because I liked the sound of it. There was a guy on my swim team long ago named Werner Jessen. People always mispronounced his full name. His uber-German dad would correct them: "It's VAIRNER YESSSEN!"  (phonetically there!)

I raced with a 2002 that was 'she' this weekend.  It made me realize, that, to the extent that my race car has any identifiable

gender, it's 'he', but 'he' doesn't really have a strong need to have a gender.  Nor a name.

'He', however, DOES have a strong need to have the right pedal on the floor, and has small tolerance for a sloppy driver.
