What were you driving when you graduated to a 2002?

82 244 Volvo Turbo. This was a replacement for the cobbled together 242 I had built in college. I wrapped the 242 around an oak tree. The 244 Turbo had a drivability issue that I fixed with a golf tee. It was 1000 bucks. I drove that car for a few years and sold it to a friend. Bought my current 2002 for 1600 bucks.

Ended up buying my first car in the UK while I was in grad school. A 2002 Daihatsu Sirion Rally II. Fun little thing. Didn't have a lot of get-up, but it barely weighed a ton. Took it to Scotland and Germany in my downtime. Ran the 'Ring and maxed it on the Autobahn. Tried like mad to import it back, but it wasn't feasible as it was under 25 years old. Had been looking into 2002's for a while as I moved back to the states and found on in the area that I couldn't say no to.

I was still riding the blue bike that Bev Sherwood sold me for $5.00. My first car was a 69 2002 in high school. Manila with black interior. Put a Stebro on it and thought I was cool. I think it was about $700, and sold it for $900, then bought a 72....then a 320i (mistake) in 83, and went dormant until about '98 or so. Then bought a 76, now Nevada, almost restored, and a Taiga 76, since sold...

The 1602 isn't my daily (bought it 6 weeks ago), but I have hankered after one for about 25 yrs since passing my driving test (first car was a classic Mini in 1992). So, my graduation is therefore a (fairly) modern Range Rover 5.0 V8 Supercharged and all that muck. The RR will be gone before my '02 for sure!!

It was only for a short time right after I got my license, but I drove the family pickup for a few weeks. 94 Chev K2500 with a 454. Lord did it LOVE fuel! Still a fantastic truck. The '02 was my first car though, so technically I was driving tractors before I was driving '02's. Spent a lot of time on that ol' Massey. It's now actually mine! The GMC grilled truck was the first truck I bought and still have. It's a giant pain in my butt, but it pulls '02's home, so I can't complain too loud.

You never forget your first.

1965 VW Bus family bought new they gave it to me after the motor blew.

Webers, cam, compression and displacement bump, headwork etc. ran consistent 16 second 1/4 miles.

Maybe 4th or 5th:

1974 2002 pastel blau blown head gasket some rust everything else was pristine.

Proper Stage 2 restoration followed by 13b conversion. Still have the same one.

Too many cars motorcycles and trucks along the way to name or remember.

Was needing a replacement for my daily driver 83 Chevy Cavalier that had gotten me through college in 1994.  For gas mileage, I was thinking about a VW Karmann Ghia or anything small and interesting, but found a couple of 02's for sale first fortunately.  The one I bought was a Agave '68 1602, which I had to wait months for the title - seller had resold the car he bought out of a salvage yard and the salvage yard owner assured me he would get a title as he was required to by law or take the car back.  I had seen on multiple occasions a really nice - fellow student's I assumed - 2002 a few years earlier while in college and really liked it, but never at the time registered what it was or thought about looking to buy one.

I was driving a snot green 1971 Chevy Vega when I ordered a brandy-new 1973 Sahara 2002 from Ridgefield European Motors in Ridgefield CT in Sept 1972. Picked it up on Dec 18, 1972. Most fun vehicle I ever owned. So much so, that exactly 40 years later, on Dec 18 2012, I bought "Schatzi", my '72 2002

I approve of your 2002 purchase dates, December 18 was the day I was born.
