Alpina A4 tribute

Has this 2002 been discussed here....it was listed on BAT recently.  I’m relatively new to 2002’s having been in the early Porsche seen for the past 30 years.  I’d be curious to hear everyones opinions on this particular car.....both the good and bad as well as the long term value.

Looks nicely done.

Many cool pieces that are likely almost impossible, or impossible,  to obtain now.

WRT value, maybe it will be worth $40k in ten years, maybe $80k.

That's my opinion -- worth what you paid for it! :)

Cheers,

I'm near ray in his thought process.

Keep the car original, or don't.

Make it really nice, or don't.

Buy it for speculative value in the future, or don't.

At the end of the day, wherever you go there you are.

What Ray^ said! ?

At worst, it’s a ‘72 tii. At best, it’s a ‘72 tii with some very desirable Alpina pieces.

One of the last commenters on BAT posited that it was worth $120K or thereabouts, currently. Hmmm... I think it was worth $60K, currently! ?

Regards,

Steve

A lot of '02s that have been for sale recently, after a resto, are (like this one) missing the engine bay side seals.

I thought these were kinda important and makes me wonder about "attention to the small details".

That valve cover breather says the same to me.  I’m sure it’s a great car, but no one who has decent amount of experience with the m10 puts a breather like that on.  M10’s run with fairly high cylinder head pressures and the breather will be “misting” oil all over that pretty injection system in very short order.

With the rise in perceived value these cars are seeing, we are seeing some great generalist restoration shops jumping on the bandwagon, but details/nuances like the seals and breather filters remain in the heads of specialists.

And they're readily available--I think the La Jolla Independent (Carl Nelson) reproductions are still available--and they're better than the originals... without 'em you get engine fumes in through your heater.
