Any big advantage to starting with an automatic car if you intend to do a 5 speed upgrade?  The trans tunnel is already wider right?  Thx!

Yes, but that’s not a particularly big deal. The difference is minor. I suspect — never having personally converted an automatic to an e21 overdrive 5-speed — it might be easier to start with a manual and give its tunnel a couple good whacks to accommodate the 5-speed.

i have 2 cars both were originally automatics and both had the tunnel widened more than factory to fit the 5 speeds...so i doubt it makes any difference...seems that you'll need to do some pounding either way

I did the swap from auto to five sp last winter using the Blunt basic kit and Steve's excellent driveshaft. EBay for the other manual bits. Cost was approximately $ 1800 in parts excluding the transmission. The wider tunnel definitely helps.  If you have a four speed and can reuse the clutch, pressure plate, clutch cylinders, pedal box, console shifter etc it is a lot less expensive. The auto to manual swap can add up dollar wise.

There is actually a demand for autos out there.  Many chicks dig 02s, but don't want the hassle of a clutch; especially in the city.

What color is that? I dont recall a 2002 brown in that shade. Nonetheless a very good price.

I have been talking with the son and just waiting for his dad to call me back.  I would do the swap and I too was curious about that color.....

The trunk pic is the give-away. Originally Sienabraun, it has had a repaint in a slightly brighter off-shade.
