What I envy is that nice clean workbench.  Mine is so loaded down with stuff it's like excavating an archaeological site--on the bottom layer next to the bench I find stuff I put there about 2015....

I thought I was alone with this disorder!  I wonder how many of us are actually out there!

a '70 ti-wannabe fuel tank rehab.

Coupla tricks I learned while working on a Renault that had been sitting for 10 or so years with a gas tank so full of crud I had to stop and clean out the fuel pump filter screen about every 7 miles on a 30 mile trip home with the card.  This was long before the bespoke stuff you can now buy.  After I drained it, I poured about a quart of kerosene in the tank, plus a 1 lb coffee can full of sharp gravel, plus a length of chain.  I then plugged all the openings and spent 20-30 minutes sloshing everything around, concentrating on the parts that were the rustiest.

After draining everything (and making sure I got all the gravel out) I filled it iwth hot, soapy water and sloshed some more, poured that out and let it dry in the hot sun.  I drove that car for over a year and never had to clean out the filter screens.

Thanks, Mike.  This is my 3rd go-round with rehab of a fuel tank.  First and second times Por-15 Gas Tank Repair Kit worked well.  The phosphoric acid treatment chemically negates all interior rust.  Will use it again.  I posted my experience and provided helpful hints - 9th entry in the following post:

Regards,

Larry
