WTB: Original air cleaner housing for 71

Recommended Posts

My car was upgraded by the PO with the weber 32/36 and i'd like to go back to the original air cleaner, snorkel, valve etc.

Looking for the parts and then i'll follow the instructions in the forum.  I found that coupeking sells them already adapted, but they have not responded to a couple of emails so i'm assuming they don't have any available.

The two-barrel Weber isn’t plug-and-play with either the original single-barrel or the original two-barrel airbox. There are over-the-counter adapters that mate the Weber to the two-barrel airbox. Some of these adapters leave the airbox sitting too high, and, thus, can leave a dent in the hood. Some owners, not wanting to risk a dented hood or wanting to retain a more factory appearance, modify the two-barrel airbox to precisely fit the Weber, skipping the aftermarket adapter.

Forum member ‘76mintgrun02’s (Tom’s) creative and precise re-working of the original two-barrel airbox, has been a model for many — there are some long threads on the topic. If your car, however, was originally a single-barrel car, and you wanted to preserve the appearance of the original single-barrel airbox, you might have to apply Tom’s concepts to the smaller single-barrel airbox as we don’t commonly see the single-barrel airbox adapted to a two-barrel carb.

Hmm... once again I believe I have made an easy project more difficult... ?

Regards,

Steve
