1967 BMW 2000C Project

Price: $7500
Location: San Diego County, Ca

Description:

Hello All,

i was referred to the site by a friend in order to sell my 1967 BMW 2000C “project”. I’ll try to keep the explanation short. I purchased the car online in 2013 from a seller in the Northwest with the intent to restore the car. When I was ready to restore the car, I turned the car over to a restorer (introduced through a “friend”) who disassembled the vehicle to get it prepped for the body work/paint and sent the engine/transmission to LaJolla BMW (in So Cal) to get them professionally rebuilt (which they were-at a cost of $6886 -in Nov 2015-I have the receipts), and then....nothing. The guy held my disassembled car at his garage for over 2 years making excuse after excuse until I finally got all the parts and body out of there and into my garage where they now occupy space.

I’m not mechanical, not in the same financial position as I was, and not as passionate about the car as I was a couple years ago. It’s time for this 1967 BMW 2000C to go to someone who will do something with this car as it’s a shame for a rare car such as this to be gathering dust. Below I have pics of the car when I got it and the car in present condition. I’m open to offers on the car, just please keep in mind that besides the cost of the actual car, I have 7 grand in the engine and transmission. When the car was taken apart it was already missing metal trim around the two side windows and 1-2 hubcaps as well as a few knobs in the interior so it should pretty much be all there though I have done (nor would I know how to) inventory what I currently have. This car is physically located in North San Diego County, California. Also I have Washington Title in hand. Car has not been registered in California Please email me any reasonable offers or questions that I do the best I can to answer.

Thanks,

Robert

You probably have a better chance of posting this on:   www.e9coupe.com

Your car, as you probably know, is an E9 and 2002s are E10s.  A world of difference between the two.

There are a number of 2000CS owners on E9 coupe who have long-time ownership and experience with your car.

Good luck with the sale.

Steve

Please take a look at the pics below.

Up until late 1973, all non USA '02s had an E-Code sticker showing 'TYP 114', Touring models had 'TYP E6'.

After then BMW put the car model at the top of the sticker. Nowhere have I seen a sticker with 'E10' on it.

Where E10 came from is a complete mystery, to BMW also.

If you can show me a pic/sticker with 'E10' on I'll rethink, but at the moment E10 is a complete myth to me.

It's also disappointing that the Faq Board home page shows 2002s as E10s.

Happy holidays, Steve!

Here is how Andreas responded when I asked about the E10 designation:

Both designations - E10 and 114 - are correct in a way though E10 must be a retroactively assigned designation. However we never use it in the BMW Classic or the BMW Group Archives, instead we call the type 2002 and if we mean the whole series we call it the "Null-Zweier". That's quick and clear, no need to complicate things. Even in official documents the other designations are very seldom used and since it leads to confusion easily, we just don't use it.

We hope this information is helpful for you.

Yours sincerely,

Andreas Harz

TYP : 114 was used on E-Code stickers (on non-USA cars) through early 1974. After that the stickers noted TYP as the model, ie 2002/Cabrio, 2002tii, Turbo etc.

So, TYP 114 would be more appropriate as it covers most of the production years.

JMHO.

"2002" covers all of the production years.

Well... “2002” leaves off 1600-2’s, especially those manufactured before January-ish 1968, when 2002 production began... ?  (“Yes,” he said, anticipating Ray’s strenuous and biting objections, ? “I personally refer to all of the two-door sub-models, from 1502 to turbo, from 1966 to 1977, as ‘02’s, the abbreviated format leaving open — at least in my mind — the displacement and fuel delivery issues. But I would never suggest my casual and personal usage suitable for the forum’s formal use.”)

I’d probably prefer TYP 114... ?

(Some will object that “E10” is, nonetheless, a valid reference to later square taillights and helps, perhaps, attract a wider audience, who know only “E10”... )

Best,

Steve C.

I'm not even sure why we feel the need for any designation. Just call them what BMW did.

If someone asks "which BMW '02 came with 13" tyres," just answer "the 1602/1600/2002/ti/tii/turbo/touring/Baur/cab/Diana!"

What did I leave out?
