RE: Lucca/Italian BMW Dealerships in the Early 1970s

Hello. I'm trying to figure out the name of the Italian dealership in Lucca where my car was delivered new in early 1973. Here's a bad pic of the key fob that came with the car. There's a BMW logo on the flipside. Thanks in advance for any info.

U.S.-imported cars, for most years, came with a “Service-Stations Overseas” booklet. This covered the Americas, Africa, Australia, and Asia. I believe European delivery cars came with the European equivalent of this booklet. One of those should quickly provide a list of Lucca dealerships.

Lucca, Italy

Giovanni Mei, Viale Castracani 162/B

Tel. 4 26 45

This from Nov '71 Service Book Europe.

It was not in the '70 book, nor the '77 version.

Thanks, you two.

I do know that S.R.L. literally means (but is not entirely equal to) limited liability company in Italy. Any idea what the LU. CAR. might be short for? Lucca  Car something? Appreciated...

“CAR.” might well be an abbreviation for carrozzeria, a body shop. If this key fob came from a BMW dealer, I would fully expect to see “BMW” or even a roundel on it.

Googling I quickly find Carrozzeria Lucchese s.r.l. But I’d caution against simply assuming this body shop is one and the same with the firm referenced on your key fob: nearly fifty years have passed since your car was manufactured and much of that fifty years was not captured on the Internet.
