1968 BMW 2002

Oh, that’s early gold!

VIN 1660467 is probably a March 1968 car — regular 2002 production just began in January 1968. It’s the 467th U.S.-spec 2002 manufactured, so that is early! And it’s quite complete and original. And, at least based on the photos shown, it appears to be low rust.

Malaga, which appears to be the current color, wasn’t yet available in March 1968, or any time in 1968. So it’s been color-changed. With a black interior, Granada is a possibility, although there is some off-white underlying paint in the trunk. Recall, that from 1966 into 1968, both Chamonix and Polaris cars defaulted to black interiors. My current guess is Chamonix.

Seats are original, with some awkward repairs to the front seat tops. A/C is early Frigiking — and not “factory installed”, as no ‘02 A/C was factory installed. Looks to be a driveable example with all the original, and sometimes hard to locate, components, such as the brakes.

Perfect unmolested example for restoration to stock... if you’re into that sort of thing.... ?

Original folding key is in the ignition!

Regards,

Steve
