I. Love. It.

I wish all folks that go to Euro bumpers can note THIS is the correct rear bumper. Rear shock tower replacement a bit ugly tho'...

It will do well because it’s a great color and very shiny, at least on the top.

There’s a lot going on under the old tectyl, and subsequent layers of black goop, however. If it were mine, I would not want to see this car naked! ?

Take a closer look at anything and everything in the trunk area. There are not simply the badly patched or replaced rear wheel housings. Am I mistaken or has the entire right side wheel housing been badly replaced — follow the sloppy welds — and the “replacement wheel well” has a bad repair on it? Now that’s a WTF in my book! The bulkhead has a substantial dent in it. How’d that happen? Hauling loose engine blocks? There’s a homemade, vinyl covered panel at the base of the bulkhead. What’s that hiding? Both rear taillights have cracked interior covers. And do not, I repeat, do not look at the trunk floor! ? This car either had extensive rust issues, or took a strong hit to the rear. Either way, the repairs were not even marginal. The bad rust repair on the front lower valance makes me suspect the extensive rust option, plus hauling loose engine blocks in the trunk. Do not take a sharp screwdriver to those rockers! ?

As with the previous Verona ‘02, the eye is everything with this seller. Dried out rubber bushings on the air box? Hit it with the black paint. Formerly a 5-speed car? Sell the 5-speed (this is 100% conjectural) and replace it with a 4-speed. Hit it with the black paint (last photo)! As long as all the ugliness is the same black, you don’t notice the details.

Best regards,

Steve

Wow - that car is a turd, and I generally try to be positive. Feels like a SelectClassics offering of yore.

Great color, shiny paint, and a vintage roof rack = top dollar. This car will need a redo, which will tack on what another 30-40K to whatever they buy it for?

With its new owners, perhaps BaT has different business model in terms of description accuracy.

Buyer beware. Hope they find this thread before the bidding runs out.

On the flip side, as I have said in the past (from my old friend Michael Dubois) - if the car is fun to drive and makes you smile, who cares how much you pay for it.

Midnight Motorsports invoices are a interesting read.

Exactly, the story is there. I suspect none of the 'BATers' will have bothered to have scrutinized them.

Nice on-the road comparison of crusty injected green to shiny turboed white:

Ohhh what's the headline for us lazy folk? ?

Photo #206 out of 207, Patrick writes, "signs of significant damage."

Please note that these* are Oldenzaal Classics restored cars.  I have had the honor of inspecting several, and humbly suggest any buyer to get a reputable PPI done prior to purchasing.

*(this car, and the turbo.  Have not looked at past cars offered)

So Euro tii's have serial numbers that start with 273? Guess so.

Somebody spent a ton of money on this car. Some of the details are well done and probably cost a pretty penny, some of them are terrible. No thanks.

Lots going on with this car to say the least, love the color though as many have noted. My 73 Tii is presently (as of this morning) at the blasters and once ready will be going back to it's factory Taiga color as well (last repainted Golf). Once done it certainly won't be on BAT or at least not for as long as I am around.

Sadly,

none of the quite frankly really really important things brought up here will matter.

The paint, the wheels, the mostly clean engine bay, the classic cert document, and the fact that it’s a Tii will seal the deal.  Unless the would-be bidders make it to this thread, the damn things gonna blow up (hopefully not literally?).  I’ve had a beer or three as I write  this so it might be the Sweet Water talking but I bet the thing breaks $75k.
