Polaris Square Taillight in Gladstone, NJ — and Not Mine!

Recommended Posts

Today, Sunday, June 20th, at 9:15 AM, I was picking up a couple breakfast sandwiches at the Gladstone Market in Peapack-Gladstone, NJ. And my ‘76 went cruising by! WTF?

Of course, it wasn’t actually my car, but it was a gorgeous Polaris square taillight, a very “put-together” example. NJ plates. Surely the owner must be — well, should be — on this forum.

Allow me to say, “This car is clearly owned by someone with discerning taste!” ?

Oops, I accidentally attached a photo of my ‘76. And I’m so old I’ll never be able to detach it… ??

Hey, is that Polaris, too? Hmm…

Regards,

Steve

I run into that situation regularly here in Dayton--my friend Jim Denker has a Sahara, sunroof '73 nearly identical to mine.  When a friend says, "Hey Mike, I saw you out driving your 2002 today" and I know it wasn't me, I tell him it was Ludwig's doppleganger, Franz...

Thanks, Mike,

I guess I need to find out who this other owner is! Especially since I can appreciate his taste in cars… ?

Best regards,

Steve

Oh dear, flame suit on, I have never really liked the soup bowls, which for me given how much I like wheels (if you hadn’t noticed) is odd.

However lately I’m starting to appreciate them especially on a car like this….  Oh no here we go?

You’ll likely change your tune when you call them “late OEM alloys” rather than “soup bowls” (?)???

Or maybe not… ?

Best regards,

Those are the best alloys for squaretails.

If I had an inferior car, I'd surely source a set.

:D

Yeah, I wasn't cool enough for a roundie, let alone the '72 tii I had.  Center exit exhaust for me all day!

And they apparently started shipping the '76's with s14, 265, 5 lug, proper steering rack, brakes so big you need 16's to clear them...  I don't know why you guys hate on them so much, jeez.

Oh, currently 16x8 Revolution RFX's.  Picking up a set of Kosei K1's, 16x7.  The Kosei's are less than half the weight of the Revolutions...

We used to call them 'Bottle Top' alloys before the E30 ones came along; somewhat like calling the '02 type 114 before some youngun' dreampt up E10.

I have a set of the 'late' alloys that's been stored indoors for 20 years. Maybe I need to get rid of them.
