Shifter knob threads stripped, need hack repair

I’ve got an old skateboard wheel as shift knob. It was temporary until I decided on a real one, but it’s been there for a year now. Sometimes it pops off in my hand, but I’ve gotten better at not doing that. Maybe I’ll line it with some tinfoil for a better fit.

Update: I was not able to get the plastic sleeve to come out but the Teflon tape seems to be working, at least for the time being. It is snug and no longer spinning and spinning which was driving me crazy.
