2002 M10 Oil dipstick wanted

02G

Recommended Posts

I've been driving around with a PO hack dip stick for too long, which is causing problems.

Looking for a stock 2002 M10 or equivalent dip stick and tube.

My 02 is a '71 so I think the dipstick tube was mounted with the flexible hose ?

It's definitely not the early mounting plate, there is just a hole in the block for mine.

(the tube is current press fitted into the block, kind works. )

Thanks in advance.

A block that uses the dipstick which attaches with the rubber hose should have a short tube already pressed into the block.  If your block only has a hole, then it either needs that tube first, or a different type of dipstick.  Is the block original?

Hi Karl,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes the block is original, matching number and chassis.

It's difficult to know which dipstick it was exactly, but I'm trying

to improve what I currently have and get back to something akin

to the stock setup, even if slightly altered so that it seals properly

on the tube and gives me a decent reading.

Here's a pic.

Tube is sealed into block with some permatex and held

by a bent bracket that's bolted to the block.

The existing Audi branded dipstick has a terrible seal at the top of

the tube, so oil vapour is forever trying to escape and gumming up the tube.

Hope it's clear what's going on there.

It looks like you have tube #2 or #3 in this diagram and your missing rubber grommet #9.

Most of these parts are no longer available from BMW including the rubber grommet and dipstick you need.

For the rubber grommet I would pull the tube out and take it to your local auto parts store, they should be able to find something similar that will work.

I think I have dipstick I could sell you for a reasonable price, I'll look through my parts stash and get back to you.
