Due to Federally-mandated body reinforcements, U.S.-spec square taillight cars require fuel tanks with a cropped right rear corner.

1976 BMW 2002 GAS FUEL TANK E10 74 USED NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED.

HAS HOLES

PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES

<br...

A tii tank, esty, has two big holes in the top: one for the fuel sending unit, one for the fuel pickup. Thus, a carb car fuel tank would require modification.

And it's deeper to obtain the same capacity. Level sensor is longer also.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

The poster is replacing the tank in his ‘74 tii, Jim, so he probably has the fuel level sender and pickup for the ‘74 tank.

Steve

I have a clean (no holes or leaks) tank that came out of my 73 tii. If you think this will work for you let me know. TR

TR,

If it was the original tank for your ‘73, or an exact replacement for your ‘73’s original tank, it will not fit a U.S. 1974 as it will not have the cropped right rear corner needed to accommodate the 1974 and later body reinforcements. On the other hand, the cropped-corner tanks will fit in round taillight cars, and BMW was even offering the cropped-corner tii tanks for earlier tii’s.

Steve
