Check out my post on rebuilding sending units - I still have more wire, if you decide to rebuild it PM me and I'll send you some wire for free to rebuild it.

I'll look for it, thanks.  There is something going on with the upper part of the outside sleeve or the sender though, and I am not sure if that is also fixable.  See the pics below.  It is not attached at the top, and it looks like there used to be mounting tabs, but they're not there.

Just an FYI regarding that replacement tii gas tank from W&N.  I found on my 74tii that the W&N tank was about 1/4" to 1/2" wider than the stock tank and resulted in my stock tii Eberspacher exhaust bumping up against it which created an annoying sound.  I ended up reverting back to my stock tank after repainting it to solve the problem for the time being.  Usage of a Big F'in Hammer in the Appropriate areas on the new tank could also probably solve the issue I had.  Your car might hopefully be different than mine.  Just an FYI,

John

EDIT:  Also the W&N (MVP) tii fuel sender is the same length as the stock tii one, so you can use that sender on the old stock tii fuel tank.  Just another FYI

Thanks for the heads up John.  I won't be able to check fit with the exhaust in place for quite a while, so I will take some measurements and see how it compares.  My tank doesn't seem to be salvageable, so the hammer (or some strategic bending by an exhaust shop) may be in play.

Ya, I really want to use my new W&N tank, but haven't yet had the guts to break out the hammer on the new tank.  I took the easy way out since my stock tank was dented, but not really in that bad of shape.  Good luck.  Love these cars,

So I pulled out the new WN gas tank and set it next to my original tii tank. I took some measurements and it seems to be the same size.

The one thing I did notice, when they welded the filler neck on the tank, it is turned a little to the rear of the car. This means the filler neck of the tank doesn't exactly line up with the filler hole in the rear quarter panel. I'm not sure if I want to deal with trying to get it rectified by WN or MVP or if I just want to take it to a radiator shop and have them cut the welds and rotate it a little and reweld it.

I'd be interested to see if others have had similar issues with aftermarket gas tanks (WN or MVP).  See the issue in my pics below. I took the tank to a radiator shop and they are going to cut the neck off my old tank and use it to replace the neck on the new tank, lining it up properly.  Estimate is $150 for the repair. Not sure if it's a European design issue or manufacturing flaw.

Be sure to sent those pictures to w&n let then know whats going on.

I did. At first they kind of brushed it off as possibly a European design issue, but then came back and recommended a repair and offered to reimburse me for the cost to get it fixed.

The tank in my car needed replacement, it was ordered through Bluntech, drop shipping to the house from  MVP. Edit: learned after the fact not an MVP tank.  It was fitted to the car before the exterior of tank was painted with the Eastwood two part aerosol, first two pictures.

The tank fit perfectly except for the two known screw holes on the passenger side of the tank.  Angles of the filler neck are not the same as your shots but should help.

Also had the fuel return neck welded closed, for like $30.

When I installed the tii tank I purchased from W&N, the filler neck also didn't line up exactly, but it wasn't as far off as the one in your pictures.  I was able to hook it up without any modifications to the neck.  The only issue I had was with the rubbing of my stock tii Eberspacher exhaust against the front left corner of the tank.  All of the bolt holes for mounting it lined up correctly.

Also not sure if these tanks were made by MVP or not.  This is the only marking on the tank that I bought.

FWIW, the W&N tank doesn't have a drain like the MVP (learned later not an MVP tank) one.

No biggie, but interesting.

Boy, that would have been convenient.  When I pulled my tank out after the rubbing, draining the gas out of it was a pain in the butt. ?

I would love to put a drain in my tank while it is at the radiator shop, but that's a can of worms.  As it is, they didn't want to just cut the welds on the filler neck, twist it into line, then re-weld it as it would ruin the coating inside the tank.  They wanted to re-coat the inside of the tank after a process like that, similar to what they would do to seal up an old tank.  That was what I wanted to avoid originally, hence the new tank.  I didn't want to put a re-lined used tank in my car, so why would I want a re-lined new tank.  Anyway, adding a drain now would likely lead to that same need to re-line the new tank.
