Gas tank toast?

Received my "European ECE homologation " tank from W&N today and dropped it in for a test fit.  Have to say not all that happy with filler pipe alignment either.

Not as bad as bergies tii tank but could be better.

Going to run with it, think it will work with a bit of tinkering, some thick ass seal tape will help raise it up a little.

Did you notice any fitment issues with the exhaust like JohnS experienced?

Dont think so, not with the installed going away muffler anyway.

I'm liking the fit at the filler less and less but still going with it. I suppose if I wanted perfect plug and play fit I could have bought an OE one for 3 times the price.

Some judicious trimming here and there, open up a few mounting holes, possibly a rubber mallet massage and a bit of shimming... It will fit up?

Now I'm wondering now durable the paint is..

Good idea.  I could probably ovalize some of the mounting holes and possibly get the tank to not rub against the exhaust.  The opening of the trunk floor where the tank fits doesn't seem to allow for a lot of movement right or left though, it's a pretty tight fit.  If not, break out the Big f'in hammer.  I repainted my original tank and it's back in there and working great, so I probably won't revisit this for years to come if ever.  Someone might get a really good deal (cheap) on a new tii gas tank at the Brisbane marina swap & show meet next year, we'll see ?

As far as paint goes.  Krylon K09203007 'Rust Tough' Semi-Flat Black Rust Preventive Enamel - is a perfect match for the paint on the tank, ha ha!  That's what I repainted my old tank in and also sprayed over the rub marks on the new tank.  It matched perfectly.

I picked up my new, misaligned gas tank from the radiator shop today. They cut the solder joints, turned the neck and resoldered it back together. Fits perfect now. $134 for the fix, which WN siad they would cover.

Oh, and I asked if they had someone who could fix the throttle return spring knob on my Tii throttle body pivot lever. The spring wore more than half way through. They ended up fixing it for free!

FWIW, the W&N tank doesn't have a drain like theMVP one.
