Weird (dodgy) 1974 tii for auction.

Re: the auction car. Why would you bill a roundie as a '74?

Probably due to the engine number.

+1

That’s why I didn’t need an answer. Even with the U.S. square taillight’s body reinforcement, an ‘02 is simply a large tin can… ?

it’s an early 1967-69 chassis with some ‘74 tii… accoutrements.

yeah, maybe-

but the welds at the firewall, the correct 1974 dash and wiring...

and if you believe that it really was extensively re- panelled,

I suspect we should just call it Bitsa, as without really crawling all over it,

who the heck knows.

If it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures, I'd drive it without shame.

But I'm not a Pebble at the Glen with Buffy or Mecum in Jackson sort of person.

Nice looking car - ironically it would probably fetch more money if they'd kept the early VIN ID and said it had been updated with 74tii running gear and interior bits. Dishonesty always makes you wonder what else they did that was dodgy.

 - front seat belts attached below rear quarter window…

This!

The team was so dedicated to giving the car that “roundie look”, and so steeped in ‘02 history, they ignored the original seat belt mounts on the ‘74’s B pillars and installed threaded seat belt mounts on the rear quarter light window sills, just like a pre-December 1971 example. No detail was too small for the “Roundie Makers”… ??

Select Classics, however, couldn’t pull off this quality of finish on their very best day. On this point, I’m serious.

The knowledge on this board is scary. You 02 nerds are something else!

Here's another one for you. They say its VIN is 2781000 and was produced January 14th, 1974. Mine was produced 3 days earlier and has VIN 2780188. In 3 days they built 812 cars? Smells fishy to me.

The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2780188 was manufactured on January 11th, 1974 and delivered on January 22nd, 1974 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Polaris metallic, paint code 060.

Any way you slice it, the car is a parts bin special.  When I put together dinner from leftovers nobody ever says "tasty" and I never make it again.

It's too bad this isn't on Bring a Trailer.  The comment section would be on overdrive for sure.

Would make for some entertaining reading.

The average BAT audience would be blinded by the shiny bits and not even notice?

But you aren't selling it as a '74 Tii, aiming to get top dollar from an unsuspecting buyer.

Yeah yeah, but we know who made it. And the shell is (largely) intact and original.

I should snap a pic of the left quarter, from inside the trunk of the ugly car :D

Cheers,
