Where to get OEM paint

Ooo, another paint thread.

My 2c- if this is your first (or second or third) time shooting a car,

don't even attempt a metallic.

Solids are pretty forgiving as to process, and you'll learn both the

how, why, why not, fuck, NO! and ok, sand it down, reseal, and try agains

that happen as you learn.  You're training a LOT of different parts of your

body (eyes, visual center, hands, legs, knees, shoulders, arms, even your breathing)

all at once, so it's not something most people are a 'natural' at.

But a solid color is just that- all the same.  If it's a bit dry, you can add a

bit more over the top.  Too much?  Sand off the spot, lay it down a little lighter

next time.  Or even just nib, sand, polish.  The paint's the same color all

the way through.

Metallics are VERY unforgiving of process failures.  2 stage is better- but

even in the base coat, any dry spray has a different orientation than 'right',

and slightly wet goes a different way.  Overspray is frosty, and if you dwell,

well, that's what they call a 'hanger'.

There's a whole aesthetic of Hardly Dumberson painting that's ALL metallic hanger...

Basically, you get to see HOW you put the paint on.

Tiger stripes look cool in green.

Not trying to dissuade the home- shop painter, just being realistic

about how metallics go down.  I learned eventually.  My metallic

looks 'ok'.  But it still looks like shit next to something done by a real painter.

Which is why I pay someone else to do metallics.  Someone who does

it every day, all day.

t

just being realistic, here.

I recently went through having my car go from bare metal (started as Sahara) to Taiga.

When I think of Taiga, I think of your car!
