what is a "BMW Classic Certificate" ??

Recommended Posts

There is a car over at BaT which says it has a "BMW Classic Certificate."

I've never heard of that Certificate, and what I found on the internet doesn't explain it.

Can some please enlighten on the reason and/or purpose and/or value of the Certificate.

If they’re (thankfully) willing to send out emails with our car’s production  information then the certificate is just a way to make it fancy while making a couple bucks.

I remember when Ferrari started the Classische dept. back in ‘07ish and started the trend. The “certification” was largely seen as a cash grab (marcel massini publicly disproved the legitimacy of number of early classische certified cars, which was highly entertaining).  BMW’s take is just a derivative.

Regardless of the certificate… I would strongly strongly recommend a PPI with a check at the sheet metal around the vin stamp.

Shoot, I’d place a @02Les history report as far more valuable signifier of a car’s background.

"Only if the provenance of your classic is impeccably documented can its value be assessed. That’s where the BMW Classic Vehicle Certificate comes in.
With this certificate you can have the production and delivery details for your BMW classic or modern classic (at least 20 years old) confirmed in writing."

So it's a 100 euro mail order vin decoder. Value probably nothing.

Warning: substituting a free email from BMW Group Archives for a BMW Classic Vehicle Certificate will deprive BMW of 100 Euros! ??

Adjusted their sales pitch for full disclosure. Additions in italics… ?

Nice car; had a resto at Oldenzaal, albeit they painted it (seems to me) a bit too light for Riviera.

I believe Oldenzaal always contacts BMW for a certificate; I guess it adds something to aid selling. I just wish Oldenzaal would stop putting the 'orange parts' stickers on pre '74 cars.

Any road up, the car in mention had pre Oldenzaal past. It seems the car was possibly raced, amateur-wise maybe, but it did have a roll cage, and, a 'late' nose panel with snorkle which may have been indicative of corrosion, or, an off road excursion. It looked more like Riviera to. A few pics below from when it was for sale 6 years ago in Italy.
