Hole in top of Tii front cowl, what's this for?

I've got a '74tii and there's no hole there.  And I never wanted a hole there to help with adjusting the points .... what's that all about ???

Cheers,

Carl

Depending on dizzy body orientation it is difficult to get a screwdriver on the clamp screw for the points .. but drilling the body rather than twisting the dizzy 45degrees seems a bit much...

Ain't factory...so if you're going for absolute authenticity (or at least visual authenticity) fill it in.

Can you still get the bolt in battery tray, or do I need to find someone getting rid of one? Or, is there a way to carefully remove my tray and fabricate some brackets?

From memory? early cars had bolt in, later cars had weld in, you would need to break the welds, clean up what’s left and then bolt in your one, if your tray was buggered or missing I think W&N had them for reasonable money.

Yeah, that would be the factory. It's a '74 tii.

+ 1

The tii “cowl notch” is factory for tii’s with E12 heads and aluminum intake runners (as contrasted to the preceding type 121 head with plastic intake runners). For U.S. tii’s this means most, but not all tii’s beginning with VIN 2761944 (manufactured June 5th, 1972). Euro-spec tii’s are on roughly, but not precisely, the same schedule for switching from 121 to E12 heads.

”Others”, meaning ‘02 owners without a factory notch — including some without the tii’s fuel injection — added notches post-factory. And we’ve even seen at least two examples — one being the Wheeler Dealer ‘74 tii — where a factory notch was “disappeared”!

Regards,

Steve

I have a hole that I suspect is from a prior owner on my Tii. I have never seen one like this before. What could it be for? I'm planning on filling it before paint, but want to make sure I'm not missing something.

My 74tii has the same hole.   I am an original owner and hole has been there since new.

Oh boy, another tii controversy. So looking at a bunch of Tii pics online shows that many 74 tii's have a hole there. Someone even mounted the right windshield sprayer in that hole. This is going to be like the snorkel nose controversy.

Can you post an up close picture of the hole? Mine wasn't just drilled. Maybe it looks like yours up close.

1987046608_fuelcan.thumb.jpg.c90a403a7d6372f32f6ef83c73e4f06a.jpgWhat's really gonna cook ALL your gooses is how the Tii fuel accumulator (that big black cannister slung under the fuel pump) is most often parallel to the CV but it also shows up as perpendicular to the CV.

mind BLOWN!

BTW my 74 tii has the hole in question.
