holy grail ?? a Turbo now on BaT .......

Recommended Posts

My car (an earlier chassis than this one) came with Trapezoid mirrors.  It also had the Right side door mirror as well (I suspect this is because of the LHD car being sold in England at the time)

So was there a spillover on mirror styles?  This car has trapaziod mirrors...  was expecting flag style by year....  ?

Perfectly correct. The trapezoid mirror was replaced by the flag mirror very late in the 1974 calendar year. Thus, 1974 models received trap mirrors originally. Most, but not the earliest, 1975 models received flag mirrors.

Thus, the turbo saw, during its production period, both the switch from trap to flag mirror and the switch from right rear exhaust to center rear exhaust.

Steve

1. paint scheme: silver face for e21’s; silver and gray face for turbo (which became silver and black face on later turbo replacement rims), and

2. generally, manufacturing date. But very late turbos (April to June 1975) and very early Euro-spec e21’s (May to June 1975) have some overlap in production period.

Learn something new every day on the FAQ. While I knew about the two-toned wheel colors, I had been told that Turbo steel wheels had a different offset from the E21s, and by someone who (I thought) knew what he was talking about.  Good to know, as it makes those 72-73tii wheels just that rarer!

This one looks nice on the outside but leaves quite a lot room for improvement elsewhere.
